The Days of Noah - Genesis 6-22

6 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. 4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. 5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. 9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. 13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. 15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. 16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it. 17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. 18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. 20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive. 21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. 22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

Matthew 24: 33-39

33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. 36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Hebrews 11:7

7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

Noah: Perfect in his generations.

Genesis 6: 1, 2 (all one sentence.) “When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.” NIV version Genesis6: 1, 2 “And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, (2) That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.” KJV

Sons of God: Bene Ha Elohim.

Daughters of Adam/man: Benoth Adam

Bene Ha Elohim is used as a direct creation of God. Adam was a son of God, the Angels were sons of God. The Greek, which is a precise language, Septuagint (LXX) is a translation of the Hebrew and 4 copies exist. It translates Bene Ha Elohim as “angels.” It has become common in seminaries to teach that the ‘sons of God’ refers to the descendants of Seth. Why? It was just too hard to accept the Scripture literally, so they began looking for another explanation.

The Sethite view doesn’t make sense because Genesis 6: 12 tells us all flesh is corrupt. Since all flesh is corrupt, it makes no sense to have a division between the offspring of Seth and Cain.

Where else do we see Bene Ha Elohim? In the oldest book in the Bible: Job, where no one disputes that the reference is to angels.

Job 1: 6 “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan/literally the adversary also came among them.”

Job 2: 1 “Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord.”

Job 38: 7b “…And all the sons of God shouted for Joy?”

The children of Adam are Benoth Adam; you and I are Benoth Adam, we are not a direct creation of God, but provision has been made for us to become the sons of God.

John 1: 12-13 “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His Name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

Luke 20: 36 “… nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.” (And while I have your attention here: your dead loved one is not communicating to you from the great beyond. If someone is communicating with you from “the other side,” it is a fallen angel, a demon, who was witness to the past and can fool you, which is why Jesus repeatedly tells us to be not deceived.)

We are not chosen because of our genetic line, we are chosen by the power of His blood and our belief in His righteous sacrifice on our behalf. We get an upgrade in our position with God.

Benoth Adam is taught to mean the daughters of Cain. But neither sons of Seth nor daughters of Cain is what the Scripture actually says. But it does talk about the offspring of this union between fallen angels and human women.

Genesis 6:4 “ There were Nephilim in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of God came into the daughters of man and they bore children to them, the same became the mighty men which were of old, men of renown.”

Three things stand out in that verse. 1. There were Nephilim in those days and 2. Also after that and 3. Mighty men

Nephilim: the Hebrew word is often translated as giants, as you saw in the two English translations at the beginning of this page, and they were giants, but that is not what the word means.

Nephilim means “fallen ones,” from the root Nephal meaning: to fall, to be cast down, to fall away, desert.

Ha Gibborim means “the mighty ones.”

The daughters of Adam gave birth to hybrids, half angel and half human. This idea shocks people, which is why most churches don’t touch these scripture, they just read over them to get past them, but what does the Scripture say?

The Septuagint calls them “Gigantes” which sounds like giants, but the word means (from the root Gigas) “earth born.” This word is the same word used in Greek mythology and translated as Titans.

In Greek mythology the Titans are the offspring of “gods” who had taken earth women and had children with them, the Titans were demigods: Atlas and Hercules for example.

Now let’s back up to Genesis 6: 3 “And the Lord said, ‘My spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be 120 years.”

There were 120 years left before the flood came. The flood dealt with the offspring and evil but it didn’t end it, as we saw in verse 4, “and after that.”

Genesis 6: 9 has a remark about Noah, that unless you’re looking for it you might miss.

“These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.” Genesis 6: 9

The word Genia is part of the root word Genetics and means breed.

And the Hebrew word tamiyom, translated perfect means: without blemish, sound, healthy, without spot, unimpaired.

Noah was just because he was obedient to God, he was faithful to God. His perfection wasn’t in his sinlessness, it was in his genetics.

The scripture doesn’t say Noah was perfect, it says his genetics were. Noah was fully human.

In Genesis 3: 15 a redeemer was promised, a seed of the woman, that would take a strike from the seed of the serpent but whose heel would be bruised but would crush the head of the serpent.

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head and you will strike his heel.” NIV

Does scripture confirm that angels took human wives?

Jude 6-7 “And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto judgement of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication and going after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.”

The angels shed the body they were living in, in order to participate in this sexual immorality and corrupt humanity. As Christians we desire to shed this body and take on a new and perfect body clothed in righteousness. An eternal resurrected body, free from corruption.

2 Peter 2: 4-11 “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved into judgement; and spared not the old world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds) then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgement, especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries, whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not being a reviling accusation against them before the Lord.”

Tartarus??? It’s translated “hell” in our English Bible, but isn’t mentioned elsewhere. Tartarus in the Greek is widely used. It is the Greek term for “a dark abode of woe,” “a pit of darkness in the unseen world.” In Homer’s Iliad, it is said to be, “…as far below hades as earth is below heaven…”

So what does this mean? I can only speculate because there isn’t another use of it in the Bible. I speculate that it has to do with space and dimensional locality, it could be the same as the abuso/abyss, but I only speculate based on its use in Greek.

Last thoughts:

Goliath was a Nephilim and he had 4 brothers, which if you think about it may be why David collected 5 stones for his sling.

INTERESTING TO FACTS TO KNOW:

Noah’s Genealogy:
Adam – meaning: Man
Seth – meaning: Appointed
Enosh – meaning: Mortal, frail, miserable
Kenan – meaning: Sorrow
Mahalalel – meaning: the blessed God
Jared – meaning: shall come down
Enoch – meaning: teaching
Methuselah – meaning: his death shall bring
Lamech – meaning: despairing
Noah – meaning: to bring comfort

Put it together in a sentence and it reads: Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow, (but) The Blessed God shall come down, teaching. His death shall bring (the) despairing comfort.

Is this a hidden message about Jesus? Proverbs 25: 2 “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but it is the honor of kings to search out a matter.” What do you think?

What about Enoch? What happened to Enoch? At age 65, something happened, Enoch had Methuselah, and from that time until his time was up 300 years later when “Enoch walked with God, and was not for God took him.” Genesis 5: 21

Enoch had a son and he named him Methuselah. Muth means death and Shalach means to bring or send forth. Strange name: 'His death shall bring forth.' Enoch was given a prophecy: as long as his son lived the judgement of the flood would be withheld.

The Flood of Noah did not come as a surprise, it was preached about for 4 generations:

Methuselah lived 187 years and had a son named Lemech. Methuselah’s life was representative of mercy, and the longest recorded in the Bible. God’s mercy is long, but there is a point when it stops and judgement comes.

Lemech lived 182 years and had a son named Noah.

And just another interesting fact about Enoch – he was translated/raptured midway between Adam and Abraham.

Elijah was translated/raptured midway between Abraham and Christ. That doesn’t have anything to do with when the rapture of the Church will happen, it’s just an interesting fact. The Bible is full of interesting things.
